No matter how many sets of dishes I have or will have, my Thanksgiving table will always be set with my mother’s dishes. A few of the pieces have been chipped and mom (bless her heart) glued the chipped pieces back on. There weren’t hot glue guns back then and I honestly don’t remember what type of glue she used. The glue marks are dark and rusty colored and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. They add character and make them even more special.
I added some texture with my standard beige muslin tablecloth and laid a silky leaf imprinted fabric remnant on top. I took the chairs from the ends of the table and moved them to the sides. No real reason, just wanted to do something different, and it changed the feel of the room entirely.
The centerpiece is made of my ceramic pumpkins that I sprayed painted. The large one sits on a glass cake plate and is surrounded by fall foliage picks and mini gourds and pumpkins. Two smaller pumpkins are placed on either side of the larger one and I added more seasonal foliage.
Since there aren’t chairs at the end of the table I added a candelabra at each end along with more of my treasured china pieces.
On this end we have the sugar and creamer servers along with desserts plates and large spoons. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll use these spoons but I just wanted them on the table.
I do have something in mind for these smaller bowls and I plan on after dinner coffee so I can use the cups. They look so dainty don’t they?
I found the faux wooden chargers at Wal-Mart last year. They’re embossed with an acorn pattern and are so fitting for the holiday there was no way I couldn’t use them again. A soup bowl sits atop the dinner plate and it will probably be used for salad. That’s the way we roll around here; one piece many uses. The brown handled flatware is perfect for this setting as are the themed napkin rings. I found the ivory napkins last year at a country shop for less than $4.00 for a set of 4. They are soooo soft!!
My mismatched amber wine glasses add some sparkle and color. I’m using my thrift store cut glass goblets also.
Visions of sugar plums, ornamemts and and sparkly things are already dancing in my head. However, I won’t be in too big of a hurry. Right now I wish you a peaceful and relaxing holiday and many more blessings to count.
