These soft florals set the scene for a casual luncheon, brunch or bridal shower.
While strolling through the garden section of the home improvement store, the possibility of having a bed of beautiful flowers that I could cut and bring inside made me smile. Some years back our living room was filled with lots of houseplants. Then came the remodel and I decided to let them go.
I inherited a bit of a green thumb from my mother and my plants flourished. She used to talk to her plants and said that was one way to help them grow. Mom also said to place them (if possible) near your telephone but never have an impolite conversation near them. This of course was way before cordless and cell phones. Over the years of planting annuals and veggies I have made it a habit of talking to my plants in addition to weeding and pruning, and they have done well. Thanks for the tip mom!
This tablescape was a way to fill my desire for beautiful blooms on my table, and when it was complete I did say, “Gosh you’re pretty!”. When designing it, I not only thought of soft flowers but various textures as well.
To lighten the table, I started with an ivory cloth and decided not to have a deep stack of dishes. The stack starts with a rattan charger followed by the oh so gorgeous floral one that I found at Michaels and used on this table. A caramel colored polyester napkin is folded lengthwise and place between the floral charger and a hobnail salad plate. Each plate has a single oversized bloom on top. Gold toned flatware adds luster and shine and additional texture is brought in with the hobnail and dimple design from the stemware. Also at each setting are tumblers filled with sweet tea and garnished with a lemon slice and strawberry.
What better place to have an overabundance of blooms than in the centerpiece? A small bowl filled with blooms is the base support for the larger bowl on top. In my stash I have a few bags of single flowers that I wouldn’t dare throw away and they were perfect for this piece.
I envisioned sitting at this table with a few of my gal pals having a light lunch and catching up on each other’s news. This setting would also work well for a bridal shower or a girl’s night in. There’s just something about flowers on a table real or faux that set the scene for a lovely meal.
These are the linky parties I participate in. Drop by and show them a little love!
