My Sleek Sophisticated Winter’s End Tablescape was born of my frustration with our ever-changing weather. This time of year the weather and the calendar are in steep competition. Warm sunny days put us in the mood for spring activity and décor but the calendar tends to keep us grounded in our regional realities.
With these feelings in mind, I’m optimistically celebrating winter’s end with hope for many bright and sunny days ahead.
I chose a silver tablecloth to ground the settings and used a white runner with a few silver sequined motifs for a tiny bit of glam. By this time of year I’ve had my way with over the top tables and am in the mood for a little less is more so I kept the centerpiece simple.
I used two painted wine bottles to hold faux orchids, along with silver pillar holders with candles and two mercury glass votive holders.
Seeing as how Old Man Winter is still clear in our rear view mirror, putting together a transitional tablescape means building the table around dinnerware that has no design or specific season. White dinner plates are my never fail choice. This Platinum Windsor set from Noritake works any time of the year and the subtle silver pinstripes can be used in an elegant or simple setting. I used deep pink acrylic chargers as the base for the plates. The hot undertones of fuschia would have been too much and baby shower pink was too sweet. I hope this makes sense.
Using tea towels rather than napkins is a wonderful alternative because there’s a large variety to choose from and they are inexpensive. This gray and white set is perfect. I love the not quite mismatched look of the plain gray along with the gray polka dots. Grey handle cutlery brought in an element of softness and the pieces were kept to a minimum.
Rounding out the setting are pink stemmed goblets and plain ones.
I’ve done a bit of culling over the last couple of weeks and in the process found some long lost décor along with some that can be repurposed. Luckily these items are going to work well on the spring tables I have in mind. Enjoy your week and I’ll be back soon with a delicious cake recipe for you.
