This calorically dense, no holds barred creation is the brain child of Martha. Yeah, she and I are on a first name basis. In the original recipe the cake is six layers. I baked three layers when I made it for Thanksgiving and did the same this time. I’m sometimes split hairs, but cake layers not so much. Three were just fine.
Here’s the recipe . It was just as much work this time around and it was just as good. What I did notice from the first time is that the caramel was lots smoother. Guess I’m getting the hang of it. I also have lots of it left over, which could be good or bad. This cake is time consuming but it’s worth every minute of it. There’s one piece left and I’m determined not to eat it. Call me crazy!
