This Moroccan Inspired Tablescape is filled with lots of color, shimmer and some great bargains.
For the longest, I’ve wanted to style a Moroccan tablescape. I’ve had my eye out for pieces that would work and had a few in my stash just waiting for the right time. It’s still not what I want it to be because I couldn’t find a camel and a hookah but, give me time. My dining room also doesn’t allow for colorful pillows on the floor and large potted plants so my ideal design had to be scaled back. Shiny gold and copper accessories are well represented and after the first go-round, I removed lots of them. Let’s not over-do it Sandra.
Another reason for my rush to style was the changing of the season. While I’m not shy about breaking a few styling rules, I wanted this one done before I dive headlong into pumpkin spice season. The pieces I chose were influenced by internet searches plus watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman. His trip to the markets in Marrakesh gave me a general idea. The marketplace was a riot of color and even the spices were displayed like fine jewels. I knew that my table had to be colorful with lots of accessories and feel exotic in a classy way.
Layers, layers and more layers! The first step was to cover my table with this colorful fabric remnant. It’s followed by a hot pink sheer curtain panel with metallic squares in the same color. From there I added a magenta table runner followed by two oversized gold dotted paper and plastic placemats.
Moving on to the center display I started with a copper container turned upside down to hold the copper hurricane. Around it, I place copper bottles filled with flowers, gold taper holders with tapers, a mini gold lantern, mosaic rim tealight holders, two small gold votive holders on each end and in the center a large gold twig votive holder. Plus, two copper cups/ sugar bowls from the thrift store. Whew, that’s a lot!
The stack begins with copper acrylic chargers with orange dinner plates on top. From there I added colorful melamine salad plates followed by gold and white appetizer plates.
On top of those, I used hammered copper cutlery.
Deep orange woven napkins with fringe are placed on the stack. They’re held together with beaded napkin rings.
To complete the setting is a trio of drinkware. A gold imprinted tumbler which inspired this table, gold cordial glass, and a pink stemmed goblet.
The only new purchases for this table are the cutlery, napkins, napkin rings and jeweled rimmed votives. Luckily I had everything else.
