If this table was Mardi Gras Lite, this Mardi Gras Luxe Tablescape is its first cousin who likes to party. After what seemed like countless hours searching the net for inspiration I gave up and searched every nook and cranny of my stash. I pulled out all the flowers, beads and other décor in green/gold/purple. Luckily, I had a few Mardi Gras specific pieces already and that helped.
I wanted my table to be full and lush without going overboard. One way to accomplish that was to not use a tablecloth. With all the activity going on in the center of the table a tablecloth felt too heavy.
After trying a dark green charger and several bowls I decided on this gold thrift store tray with its frilly border as the base for the centerpiece. Two cylindrical vases are lined with gold/white fabric scrapbook paper. Inside I added some dried beans to keep the stems upright.
Initially, I had dark violet flowers inside but they weren’t bright enough. These two-toned mums aren’t a perfect match but they certainly livened things up a bit. I also added purple and green plumes and squigglies (??) that were taken from some hanging ceiling party décor. You’ll notice that the colors aren’t matchy, but in keeping with the theme, they’re fun and frivolous just what Mardi Gras is supposed to be.
Last year I purchased these colorful masks from the dollar store and never used them along with the beads and colorful coins. The ceramic masks are from my previous Mardi Gras table.
On each side of the centerpiece, I add a gold vase encrusted with rhinestones and a small gold votive with bling on the front.
The stack is relatively simple and begins with a gold charger. A white dinner plate is wrapped with a teal linen napkin. On top, I used a Mardi Gras paper plate from Party City. It works like a charm! As does my old standby gold toned flatware.
Rounding out this colorful table are the goblets in theme appropriate colors. The berry colored ones are from Ross, the teal from the thrift store and the gold cordial glasses are from a trip to Karlovy Vay many years ago.
Let the good times roll my friends! I’m sharing my Mardi Gras Luxe Tablescape at the following parties this week. Drop by and show them a little love!
