Since scouring the net for tabletop ideas, I have also come across some of the most gorgeous homes I’ve ever seen. So many of them look like they should be in magazines and quite a few of them were. I’ve been inspired by bloggers and homemakers alike that really know how to work with what they have and make the best use of their decorating dollars.
Once upon a time I would say, “If I can’t frost it, fry it or work it out, I can’t do it”. Well you know what? That old mantra of mine is played out. I don’t have designer chops but I know what is pleasing to my eye and I know how to make my home comfortable. Lord knows the whole house isn’t camera ready but I going to share a bit of the old homestead with you guys from time to time.
Recently I’ve fallen in love with pillows, much to Gabbi’s dismay. On my weekly outings I have searched all over for throw pillows at a reasonable price. Now I know “reasonable” means different things to each of us. To me, a reasonable price for a pillow is not $30.00. Thank goodness that I also discovered pillow covers. Hobby Lobby has the best price I have found. When combined with their 40% off coupon you can have tons of throw pillows at a decent price.
My old dingy, beat up pillows have been given a new lease on life. Since they look all fresh and new Gabbi can’t lay her head on them. At least not yet. This shade of blue is feels cool and inviting and definitely brightened up the black furniture.
On the coffee table I used a mirror as a tray to hold the mercury glass votives, one of my embellished pillars on a teal saucer plus a blue and a white bottle that I picked up at TJ Maxx.
For the end table I covered two books with wrapping paper and placed a hook me up any way you can candle holder. The base is a silver pillar holder and I took the hurricane from its original gold base.
The stone wall is the real centerpiece of the room. My husband did it all by himself one stone at a time. When the kids were little they did their best to climb this wall and to my knowledge no one made it to the top. And to think the Mr. wants to take it down!
Having three separate mantels gives more decorating options, but at times I long for one long one. On the first there’s the other peacock pillar holder and a fringe vase. You’d think I was off my rocker if I told you where the fringe is from so I’ll keep it under wraps. My original intention was to use it on a cake stand but I’m kind of digging it on the vase. The mother of pearl-ish taper holder is topped with a smaller pillar.
Mantel two is my fave. I bought two blue bottles from Michaels at 60% off so they were only $3.79. Score!!! Scrapbook paper is for more than scrapbooks. It makes for great backdrops and fills in for frames you have lying around. This white thingamajig is getting lots of use. I took the top off and placed a green moss ball on top.
On mantel three there’s another fringe vase, blue bottle and a tree I found at the thrift store and spray painted white.
The last thing I want to show you is my foyer table. In addition to pillows I also love lamp shades. These two were used on a table back in the fall. Between them is another TJ Maxx find, the teal and copper cake plate. Topped with two spheres and a twig of teal flowers it was enough for me and I think it compliments the picture on the wall.
Whew, there I did it!! This feels so much different than sharing a tabletop, but I’ll get used to it.
These are the linky parties I participate in. Drop by and show them a little love!
