I recently went on a shopping trip to Twelve Oaks Mall in Troy with a couple of friends. Twelve Oaks is pretty high end but I did manage to pick up a few goodies. Forever 21 and H&M fit into almost every budget and the selection is never disappointing. When it comes to food, temptation was everywhere. Godiva, Mrs. Fields, Starbucks, Sanders and of course the standard fare at the Food Court. Towards the end of our trip I spotted a shop that made my heart go pitter-patter, Just Baked. This sight for sore eyes is a bakery, with an array of cupcakes that will give you a sugar rush just looking at them. I won’t begin to list all the flavors or other goodies they carry, I’ll just include the link.
The prices aren’t bad: $2.95 for one, 2 for $5.50 -OR- 6 for $12.50 -OR- 12 for $24.00. I bought 3 for $8.25 and Lord knows I could have eaten all three but I didn’t, my family deserved a treat too. My choice was the Turtle cupcake, and it was good. Ye old turtle was yellow cake with a cheesecake center, and a drizzle of chocolate and caramel sauce on top and a walnut. Would’ve like to had more filling, but then again it may have made the whole thing too sweet. The other two I brought home were Grumpy which is devil’s food cake filled with vanilla butter cream, topped with more buttercream and dipped in chocolate ganache. Very nice presentation. Rounding out the trio was Strawberry Cheesecake; yellow cake with a cheesecake center topped with strawberries. By the time I thought about taking a picture those cupcakes were gone. Going to have to take a lesson from Bakerella and have a camera ready at all times.
Some people balk at the price of cupcakes, but they are lots of work. When you think that each one has to be filled frosted and decorated the price isn’t bad. I’d rather do a whole cake any day. That’s not to say that I won’t do cupcakes. Hats off to all you crafty confectioners in the cupcake world. Other than putting a slight dent in my sweet tooth that day, the menu at Just Baked sparked tons of ideas for flavors for my pound and layer cakes. Thanks ladies!
