In celebration of what you ask? You fill in the blank. If we look inward there is always something to celebrate and it can be the most simplest of things. I celebrate life everyday. Of course some days are a challenge but I am grateful that I am here and in every moment I have everything I need. Let’s be clear there is a huge difference in what we want and what we need.
Initially I had something different in mind for this table. I wanted it to be fuller and with more “stuff” on it. My vision was one of tons of florals, lanterns and candelabras. I was stuck in Pinterest land. For a few moments I stepped back and looked at everything that was in my hoarders bin; it was full. Slowly I gathered my floral remnant from the thrift store and realized how spring like it is, and I smiled.
My smile grew even more as I reached for the aqua chargers that had never been used. Their color was a beautiful complement to the fabric overlay. The small dishes with the floral trim were placed on white dinner plates. The spring vibe I was after was beginning to emerge. Torn between two different flatware patterns, I decided on these with the flora pattern. I felt a happy dance coming on!
With the addition of a white salad plates and lace trimmed beige napkins I was on a roll. I finished the setting with a plain stemmed goblet and a smaller one with a faceted design.
Usually the centerpiece is where I tend to go off the rails. Once again I stood in my belief that I could work with what I have. Some years back I was determined to get a trifle bowl. I hemmed and hawed for the longest before I bought one. It has sat on my shelf for at least six or seven years and I may have used it twice. Remember what I said about having everything I need? It along with a small round glass bowl became the vessel for my flowers.
To hide the stems I lined the small bowl with two banana leaves and placed it inside the trifle dish. From there I added stems of ivory and peach flowers until it was full. The final touch was several slender green leaves inserted into the center of the arrangement. I placed two silver pillar holders on either side and I was done. I was also very happy. Not just happy with the way the table came together, but happy that I have so much to celebrate each day.
When I look out the window of the dining room and the sun is shining it’s cause for celebration. If it’s raining or cold, I celebrate the fact that I have warm shelter from inclimate weather. I could go on and on but I think and hope that you get the point. Life is too short to bemoan the fact that we don’t have this or that. I’m working on being in control of my happiness and finding joy in just being here. Sometimes putting on those oh so lovely rose colored glasses is just what’s needed. I hope you’re having a lovely day.
These are the linky parties I participate in. Drop by and show them a little love!
