A Gatsby inspired surprise party for Mom and Dad.
We definitely got our party on during the month of January. Our first birthday month of the year culminated with a surprise Gatsby Inspired Party that our kids hosted for us January 31st. It’s not easy to put one over on me but they did. Our son from Atlanta and daughter from Texas both came back home. We had family, friends and neighbors there and oh my gosh the food!It was an amazing party! I was so excited that I didn’t get nearly the amount of pictures that I wanted. Everything was in the moment and I didn’t want to miss any of it so please look over the quality of some of the photos.
My kids know that had I known what was going on I would have wanted to do a party table and cook lots of food. Their intention was for Mom and Dad to just come and enjoy. I was on a roll with sponsored posts so Charisse asked me a couple of weeks ago if I had any lined up for the weekend of the 30th. When I told her I was free she told me that she and Damion wanted to have a birthday dinner for us at their house. Immediately I asked what she wanted me to bring. “Oh just a cake”, she said. Naturally I asked her 587 times after that what else I could do.
I talked to the out of town kids’ lots of times and they didn’t let on. Casey told me he would be speaking at a conference in Florida and Samara said she had an event at Frito-Lay headquarters that day, but thought it was very nice of Charisse and Damion to have dinner for us. Pretty Sneaky. Charisse came over a couple of times to go through my stash for dinner and she picked out some pretty nice pieces. The only thing I knew was the color scheme, black/white/gold.
The day before the party Samara called and told me that Charisse really would like it if Dad and I wore something black. I still didn’t think anything of it. Gabbi had already approved the outfit I told her I was wearing so I was good to go. Speaking of Gabbi, I didn’t think she could keep a secret like that but she did.
When we arrived that evening there were lots of cars on their street. I noticed the personalized license plate on my cousin’s vehicle and through the window I could see decorations. Now it was making sense. Walking in to a room full of family and friends was so awesome. We were hugging and kissing everyone and then Casey and Samara walk into the room. I’m surprised you didn’t hear me squealing.
To top it off all of the kids wore Gatsby inspired outfits. Even our little grandson with his man bun!
The dessert table was fantastic and I was so proud of my girls. They styled it perfectly! Samara made the cookies and brought them with her. Charisse spent a couple of days preparing the food and decorating the house and channeling her inner Marth. My son-in-law braved the elements and grilled ribs, and our other sons were at their sister’s beck and call for whatever else was needed.
Those Garth kids I tell ya! From left to right; Casey, Garlon, Samara, Charisse and Anthony. It was a weekend to remember and we are so very blessed and grateful for our children. Casey and Samara didn’t leave until Monday which meant we had all of Sunday to hang out. I still didn’t cook anything because we had leftovers and they filled it with some other takeout food. This was the first time that all of the kids were home and I didn’t cook a thing. For the longest I’ve wanted to style or host a Gatsby inspired party. Just attending one was alright!
