An edible centerpiece is a delicious option for your table.
There is something about being snowed in that makes me want to crank up the oven and bring my butter and eggs to room temperature. It was also time for me to change my dining room table décor. Using an edible centerpiece is like hitting the big red EASY button and the last thing I wanted to do was fuss with a floral arrangements.
It seems that Mother Nature has us in a headlock and won’t let go. For two weeks in a row we were hit with 10+ inches of snow and we’re all tapping out, Enough Already!
Even though spring is only a few weeks away I chose late winter-ish colors. Last summer I shared a table, Another Use For Paint Chips where I used a paint chip sample to choose the colors. While searching for my envelope of paint chips samples I came up emptyhanded. Yet another reason to get a little more organized. Thank goodness I have a gazillion samples stored in my phone and my laptop. Again this is an example of a transitional Tablescape. I could add a touch of bamboo or honeysuckle for a pop of color and it would work well for early spring.
There isn’t nary a sprig of grass or a leaf in sight. All I see is bare trees (and snow) so that prompted my decision to not use a tablecloth. Here’s how the rest of the table came together using the chosen color palette.
Nougat – I chose a satin runner in ivory and light wooden chargers which were the closest I could get to the nougat example in the color scheme. I also added the salad plates, plus wooden orbs at the base of the cake stand. The flowers in the vases were a bit of a stretch but what the heck.
Deep Teal – I’ve used several shades of teal. The goblets, napkins and vases and a touch in the cake stand.
Coffee liqueur – The dinner plates, flatware, the copper in the cake plate and of course the chocolate cake represents this shade beautifully. The clear goblet offers a bit of shine and reflection. Sadly, the coffee mugs didn’t make the cut.
Now, about that cake. Sweet Mother of Pearl!!! It ranks up there in the top three of my all-time favorites and it was not the cake I intended. I’ll save that story and recipe for my next post. Take Care and be sure and come back for the recipe!
These are the linky parties I participate in. Drop by and show them a little love!
