To break free of a tablescaping rut I’m always searching for creative ideas for tablecovers. My search didn’t take long and ended up more of a reminder of what I already have. I love it when that happens! The idea that I’d been toying around with was something light and airy, very befitting of the current season and my current mood.
My last out of the box tablecover was a photography backdrop on my Cinco de Mayo Tablescape. On more than one table I’ve used fabric remnants as covers and overlays. Other very inexpensive alternatives to traditional cloths are sheets and what I’m using here, sheers.
When Charisse moved into her home a few years ago she asked if I wanted the four panels of sheers that were left in one of the bedrooms. Uh yeah! I think she knew the answer before she asked. From the beginning they felt a bit romantic and dainty. Perfect for the mood I wanted to create with this table. Initially I tried the sheers over the table and the wood shown through and destroyed the feel. Next I tried them over a lavender cloth and didn’t care for that either. A white tablecloth underneath kept the light and airy feeling.
Two panels were used to cover the table and one I double folded lengthwise and used as a vertical runner.
For a centerpiece I’m using my repurposed thrift store candelabra along with a floral garland bunched at its base. On each side there is a purple vase with a hydrangea bloom.
Each stack begins with a silver charger and a lilac napkin overwrapped. The dinner plates are Noritake Windsor Platinum. Each plate is topped with a small white plate and purple tumbler. Very spring-like! To complete the stack, I used a water goblet, champagne flute and gray handled flatware.
Did you know that the end of your cutlery should be a thumb’s length from the edge of the table? Finger nails not included of course!
With wedding season coming soon I think this would be lovely for a bridal luncheon or a shower. The purple glasses and vases could be swapped for white of clear ones for more of an ethereal ambience.
I hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend. We’re straining at the bit over here to set out plants as soon as the frost advisories are gone for good. Thanks for stopping by!
