Will ya look at the chocolate glaze dripping down the sides of this Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake? Chocolate peanut butter glaze to be exact. The words haven’t been invented that can describe the taste of this cake. This awesomeness was made for Charisse’s birthday on August 23rd. It was her special request and I filled it. Poor Gabbi couldn’t have any due to her peanut allergy so I made a Chocolate Chocolate Chip cake also so she wouldn’t feel left out.
Guess I should tell you that Charisse found the recipe over at Smitten Kitchen. This beauty had several steps to it that required a bit of patience. The easiest part was mixing the batter. One bowl no mixer and to my surprise the batter was silky smooth. The layers were extremely fragile and had to be frozen before frosting and assembling. The notes Deb left were very helpful and eliminated any guess work about how the cake was progressing. I have never had peanut butter cream cheese frosting before and this one made me happy, happy, happy. (My Duck Dynasty salute).
The chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter cups as garnish was the birthday girl’s idea and it was a darn good one. We were already way over the top with calories and fat grams anyway so why not pile on some more. We made sure we shared this one; it was way too dangerous to have it hanging around for long. There was no way to cut this and have neat smear-free slices.
I followed the recipe exactly so I’ll just include the link here so you can head right over to Smitten Kitchen and check it out.
