As I’ve been putting my tablescapes together, I’ve noticed a lack in the variety of chargers. There’s the basic gold and silver with an occasional red or brown thrown in for good measure. For Thanksgiving I was lucky enough to find some at Walmart with a fall motif. Maybe I’m not shopping in the right stores. Maybe if I lived in a more metropolitan area there’d be a greater selection. I know that finding them on the internet is another option. However, unique, fun and different typically comes with a price that I’m not willing to pay right now.
If you’ve been hanging out with me for a while you know that I have a soiree for my clients in the summer and another in the winter. The winter event is coming up in a few weeks and if everyone attends there will be 14 of us. That’s quite a few chargers! I’ve decided to use real plates, glasses and flatware this time. See what happens when you become a tablescaper? Everything won’t be a perfect match but the colors will work well together. Now back to those chargers.
I want chargers in bulk and I want to customize them. Hmmmm….let’s see….. Stop the presses I’ve got it!!!!
In addition to TJ Maxx and the thrift stores, Home Depot is now one of my favorite stores. With one call I found out how to have my chargers in bulk and customize them too. I bought a 4×8 sheet of ¼” luan and the nice gentleman there cut it into 21 (give or take) 12×12 pieces, with no charge for the labor. Instant bulk chargers for the bargain basement price of $11.10!!! Next time, and there will be a next time I’ll have them cut in either 13 or 14 inch squares for a little more room around the plates. Squares, circles, scallops, oh the possibilities!
They are a bit rough around the edges, but nothing that a light sanding won’t take care of. I can cover them with contact paper, wrapping paper, fabric, paint them, varnish them, and just plain old have my way with them! Can you tell I’m excited? The jury is still out on what I’ll do with them for the soiree, but you can bet I’ll be sharing them with you.
