December 10th was my official last day of work. Not for the season, or for the semester. I am retiring. It looks funny to see this in print and even stranger to say it. I told my students that when I can identify with the sports/fitness related injuries we talk about it’s time to give it up. Teaching fitness is over (for now) but not my personal fitness. Fitness is ingrained in me and will be a part of my life from now on. Will I miss teaching? Yes, yes and yes again! Teaching is my passion and at the risk of sounding arrogant I was/am a good teacher.
Putting all of the years together I taught in the Wellness Division for Delta College for 12 years, and I had a good run. My last six years at the Ricker Center were filled with moments of joy and of course frustration, as with most jobs. The awesome, supportive staff at Ricker made my days run a lot smoother. The student workers that I came to know over the years were equally as supportive and I will miss them all.
I have also taken great joy in the students from prior years that would stop in to say hi, ask if they could come in and workout, or to let me know that my class made a difference. Of course I had to make them a treat. Actually I made two. A banana cake and these cupcakes. I brought in the banana cake earlier in the week and these cupcakes for the holiday potluck.
The yellow and chocolate cuppies are frosted with a vanilla buttercream and garnished with fondant cutouts.
What’s on my agenda now? Chillaxin! I plan to revitalize my cake decorating business and branch out to wedding design. I’ve also been told that later on I have the option of going back to teach a class if I’d like. Never say never folks. For now though, I have lots of baking to do before the kids come home and a new grandson to spoil!
I’m sharing these cuppies at the following link parties this week:
