You’ve heard me talk about how totally awesome my kids and grandkids are, but have I told you how awesome and wonderful my husband is? He isn’t too keen on celebrating his birthday but I try to make a big deal out of it because he deserves it. We celebrated his big day on Monday and this tablescape was put together with him in mind. I was going for something kind of dapper and elegant at the same time.
For the look I was after the table needed to be sans tablecloth. I found the runner at Pennys after Christmas for $2.98. I know right! Rattan chargers from TJ Maxx started the stack. My beige dinnerware from Burlington was the perfect tone for the setting. The brown flatware also came from Burlington’s and it is high time I go back there.
Other than thrifting and hitting up my other favorite stores I love shopping at Amazon.com. That’s where the brown napkins came from. I got four of them for $5.00, not bad at all. The dimpled goblets are from Pier 1 and the tumblers from the thrift store.
When all else fails candles are great to use as a centerpiece. Once again I pulled out my goldish/silverish pillar holders. Flanking these I used cylinder vases from the dollar store and filled them part way with pebbles and larger stones. The smaller pillars on top of the rocks were the perfect fit.
Sometimes I feel like a hoarder stashing boxes and bags of table goodies away for future use. The dessert plates with stand came from TJ Maxx right after Thanksgiving for the bargain basement price of $7.50. And to think I was contemplating taking them back. Silly me!
This color palette was almost tailor made for my dining room. We are definitely earth toned 70’s people. Thankfully we got rid of all the avocado, rusty orange and deep yellow stuff in the rest of the house. Please check out some of the other fab tables at the parties I’m linking up with this week.
Wow us Wednesday’s

Open House Thursday

I love dishes and have to stop myself from buying too many. You just reminded me of a bowl I got at Home Goods and stashed in the cupboard….I need to use it. You find such great deals…I’m especially fond of your chargers and plates on this manly table
Nowadays I buy more dishes and table linens than clothes. And Gabbi let’s me know!
What a lucky man! You know how to make people feel special, Sandra!! The table looks lovely.
What a nice thing to say Lydia, thank you.
Very nice, Sandy!! I love the way you folded the napkins!!
That napkin fold was very spur of the moment.
It’s is so earthy and lovely
Cheers

Thanks Uru, my mission was accomplished.
I know he loved this special table Sandra! You have such a wide repertoire of decorating schemes. I’m always amazed at what you come up with next. Isn’t it funny that avocado is now “in” again, they just call it by another name!
He felt very special. I’m planning my Valentine’s table now. Think I can work in some of that new fangled avocado?
You’re not being a hoarder by getting things for future use! You’re creating a “tablescaping bunker”!!!!!!!
That makes sense to me! It’s just like building up your pantry with food or stocking toilet paper or drinking water for bad weather! Cool napkin fold, and a very manly table for a manly man!
I”ll be sure and tell my husband it’s a bunker. Why didn’t I think of that?!?!
I love the table! Wishing your hubby a wonderful birthday and year ahead. I am so excited and very jealous of all your wonderful deals!! Those dessert plates with holder… wwwwhaaat!!! I have never tried Burlingtons…. I must give them a try. I love TJMaxx…. but have tried very hard to stay away because I always want to buy something. Heck.. I don’t even look at the clothes there… the Home Departments is my one bee-line. I have really no more space.. but you are tempting me to go find some bargains.
Yay… my comment too. Hooray!
Double yay!!!!!
I don’t remember the last time I bought clothes at TJ Maxx. I also head straight for the home/kitchen isle, right after I leave the clearance section:)
Let’s face it, Sandra – we all are hoarders. However, it is for a good cause, right? I mean, we have to buy, when things are on sale. Think of all of the money we save! Anyway, I love your table. That runner is great and I would really like to own some of that flatware. Brown is my favorite color. Happy belated birthday to your husband!
Hi Diane! I have learned my lesson about not getting the super bargain when I see it. Nine times out of ten if I go back for it, it is gone. Thanks for visiting.
What a beautiful tablescape to celebrate your husband’s birthday!
And boy…your really go some great deals and bargains there.
Thank you Amy. I love to search out the local thrift shops and all of my favorite haunts. I hope you visit here again.
Normally I don’t do “manly” browns and beiges in my table settings, but I loved the way your pieces mix together the different textures. Beautiful — I hope he liked it!
He loved it! Thank you for stopping by. Sometimes I’m hesitant about shades of brown because my house used to look like one big earthtone.
I actually love these table setting, and if I see those pillar holders, I’d totally buy some! They are gorgeous…. You know, every time I see you find good deal and share on your site, I find myself at TJMaxx the following morning… 3/4 times it happened in the past! That means you are my inspiration, right?
oh a truly wonderful table.. The runner, the candleholders, the dishes.. and the napkin fold!! I must figure that one out. Love this.. xo marlis
You know what Sandra? Styling celebrations for men is hard, but you have made it look easy! The table looks fabulous!
Masculine decorations are a bit of a challenge. I’m going to put together a couple of inspiration boards for future reference. Thanks for stopping by.
