My birthday is coming soon and of course I had to set a table for me. Last year it was all about the color pink and all things damask. It was a challenge this year friends from using anything pink but I did it. This table seems so frilly that it almost seems like it doesn’t belong in my dining room. However, this is the year that I’m determined to venture way outside of my comfort zone.
I even pulled some chair covers out of the linen closet, how about that? They’ve only been used once since I bought them at Target three years ago.
I started the table with an ivory cloth and a taupish-gold colored fabric as an overlay. One thing I’m going to keep my eyes open for this year are different chargers. Until then these gold ones fit perfectly with this scheme. The stack was continued with a white dinner and dessert plate.
An ivory and a gold napkin were used together and tied off with a gold cord. That’s a quick and inexpensive way to finish off a napkin if you’re not comfortable with fancy napkin folds. And, here’s my old standby gold flatware again, serving me very well.
Last weekend I found a new thrift store and lo and behold these patterned tumblers were waiting for me. At the rock bottom price of .59 each how could I resist? The red tones on the inside show more than the gold on the outside, but I like the way they raise the temperature of the setting. I think a little Disaronno would be very nice in my cordial glasses. Followed by a bit of bubbly in the goblets. Yes I am planning on a few libations for my birthday.
I raided my storage area for all of the brass/gold candleholders I could find. I laid out tapers, votive holders tall and small plus a cute beaded one.
The two vases that flank the centerpiece are actually wine bottles. I filled the insides with moss and added gold spriggly things. I know spriggly is not a word but it’s a good description.
Now about that centerpiece. It’s two cake stands that I absolutely adore. The larger one was a gift from my dear neighbor Pat and the smaller one came from TJ Maxx. The question now is what sweet treat will they hold for my special day? Stay tuned….

Thank you Anne. I’ve been hunting for cake plates at the thrift shops also. No luck so far; I may have to resort to crafting my own.
OOH, I like this! I recently did a table in silver and gold for New Years Eve, and I was surprised at just how much I loved the gold!!! I think I will be doing a Gold and white table again soon, thanks to this inspirational post. Have a great day! =D
