My oven is getting an awesome workout here lately. I’m also having more opportunities to practice my fondant skills. Last Saturday we were invited to a surprise 60th birthday party for Charisse’s future mother-in-law and I was asked to make her cake.
It was two tiers. The top strawberry, and the bottom chocolate and vanilla marbled. I covered the cake in vanilla butter cream and embellished it with a fondant ribbon borders and fondant jewels. The color palette was black and white and in keeping with the theme I added a few black and white silk flowers between the tiers.
To add a bit more sparkle I blinged out a serving tray to use as a cake stand. Around the outside I added white satin ribbon and overlaid it with rhinestone ribbon. I turned the tray upside down to give the cake a bit more height.
On each side of the cake I placed silver glittered votives with white silk flowers and LED tea lights inside.
The hall was decorated beautifully in black and white damask, my favorite and no not by me. It was a beautiful evening and the guest of honor was moved to tears by the surprise and the outpouring of love from family and friends.
I’m sharing the birthday love at the following parties. Drop in and see what goodies they all have in store!
